In emergency medical situations, one of the greatest obstacles facing Paramedics is a lack of information regarding medical history, medical conditions and prescribed medications for the patient requiring emergency treatment.
Leadership Manhattan Beach Class of 2008 will distribute the “Envelope of Life” and the 72-hour Emergency Preparedness Kit checklist at two community events this spring. As part of the Earth Day Festival in Polliwog Park on April 19, 2008, volunteers in the Leadership Manhattan Beach booth will distribute Project Life Saver materials along with environmentally safe, reusable bags. On May 10, 2008, Project Life Saver materials will be distributed at the Manhattan Beach Police and Fire Department’s Open House. On May 16, 2008 Project Life Saver materials as well as disaster preparedness kits will be distributed at the Manhattan Beach Senior Health Fair.
The “Envelope of Life” documents this pertinent health information, is kept in a protective bag stored in the refrigerator, and provides a decal placed on the resident’s front window where it can be seen by first responders.
Creating a 72-hour Emergency Preparedness Kit is vital for individuals and families in the event of a natural or catastrophic disaster, yet many people are unsure of what should be included or where the kit should be stored. Project Life Saver provides a checklist of must-have items and identifies websites for further educational information and the purchase of pre-made kits.
By providing this essential information, the Manhattan Beach community will have the ability to sufficiently sustain themselves in the hours and days following an unforeseen disaster.
